Designer Notes
Paratrooper units operate deep behind enemy lines for extended periods of time. At times, many units often found themselves out of communications range with no way to communicate with rear area support elements, often resulting in missed opportunites or disastrous blunders. Field commanders sought to remedy this with the creation of the Spark Jager, a dedicated communications/field electronic warfare vehicle for airdropped combat units. Technicians improved the communications array of a standard Jager Paratrooper and installed a satellite uplike unit in a special housing located on top of the Gear's backpack. The resulting system worked, though it had its shortcomings: the Gear must briefly stop for the uplink to align with a satellite, though once aligned the link will stay locked at up to walking speed (even up to top speed when on even ground). The additional equipment required to support the uplink also caused some cramping in the cockpit, and the heat generated by the new equipment created several system failures. Despite numeroous corrections, such as additional heat sinks located in the torso area, many Sparks still suffer from constant overheating, forcing their pilots to reduce their rate of activity to avoid damaging their sensitive equipment. Many Sparks also suffer from mild overheating-related defects, which can usually be hammered out by technicians if given enough time and resources.
